If you are a senior considering dental implants, you may have to worry about issues other dental patients don't have to think about. For example, you may need more time to recover after receiving your implants. My name is Jodi, and I've been working with seniors for years. I decided to create this blog to help the seniors I can't meet in person. In this space, I'm going to post entries on everything related to dental implants and seniors. From tips on flossing implants after arthritis has claimed some of your dexterity, to guiding you through the implants-vs-dentures debate, this blog is designed for you. Thanks for reading. I hope you find what you need!

If you have imperfections of your front teeth, such as staining and discolouration, spaces between the teeth, and oddly-shaped teeth, you might be looking to correct your smile. A popular option is to get dental veneers, which are made from pieces of porcelain adhered to the front of your teeth. There are also Lumineers, which are similar but are thinner and applied slightly differently. Here are some things to think about when deciding between veneers or Lumineers.
Veneers May Look More Natural
One of the reasons to consider veneers over Lumineers is that they often look more natural. The process of applying veneers involves filing down the natural tooth, then attaching the veneers to the teeth and polishing them. Because they are thicker than Lumineers and provide more preparation work of your natural teeth, they do tend to look slightly more natural than the thinner Lumineers. However, this also depends largely on your dentist.
Lumineers Require Less Tooth Preparation
A benefit for Lumineers is that very little preparation is done with your natural teeth. They are much thinner, so not as much work is done on your natural teeth in order to make room for them. However, if you don't get any filing done on your teeth, they might appear a little more bulky over your teeth. On the bright side, not getting preparation to the teeth means that if you ever have them removed, you don't need to worry about how your natural teeth look. The filing down done while getting veneers is not a reversible procedure.
Veneers Can Be More Durable
Since the porcelain veneers are thicker than Lumineers, they can be more durable and last longer. The material is custom-made to fit over your teeth, so even though your teeth are filed down, the veneers should blend in very well with the rest of your teeth. Choosing a good dentist is one of the most important things to remember, since they are who can control the overall look and longevity of the veneer process.
Lumineers Can Be Done in Less Time
A benefit for the Lumineers is that getting them done can often take less time. While both veneers and Lumineers require having impressions done of your teeth and waiting for the dental lab to create the porcelain pieces, you aren't having to get as much work done on your natural teeth, so they can often be done in less time and with a less invasive procedure.
